FAQ

GPS stands for “Global Positioning System.” It was originally developed for military use and is now available to the general public to aid in everyday navigation. GPS data is acquired from a group of dedicated satellites orbiting the Earth. GPS receivers are actually tracking devices on the ground (or at sea). The devices can be located by calling up three or more of the closest satellites. Using a process called trilateration, the resulting information is then calculated by GPS software to identify the exact positions (latitude and longitude) of the receivers. Note that GPS satellites should not be confused with communication satellites used for wireless communications. They are two completely separate satellite networks. All of AVAS GPS systems link to GPS satellites for location information.

GPS devices are similar to that of a simple cell phone. All it does is receive GPS coordinates from the satellites above and transmits those coordinates through cellular networks to our servers. Then our software will take this data and compile it, so that it makes meaningful sense to you (the end user). Our GPS Tracking Platforms are also cloud based, this means you can be on any computer or mobile device and the information displayed will be the same across all devices at the same time depending on your account type.

YES! Depending on your insurance provider you may qualify for insurance discounts due to having a GPS Tracking device installed within your vehicle(s).
